WHY CHOOSE WEST PORT HIGH SCHOOL?
WPHS is the #1 ranked high school in Marion County by U.S. News and World Reports.
Once again, WPHS has been named a National Merit School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
WPHS is the only school in Marion County to be awarded the Advanced Placement (AP) Bronze Honor Roll by the College Board for college-going culture, college credit, and college optimization. This is a testament to the rigorous standards within our APEX Magnet Program.
WPHS is the only school in Marion County to earn the AP Access Award for our work to provide all students, especially underrepresented populations, access to AP courses and college credit opportunities. In the APEX Magnet Program, there are no barriers for students - any student who wants to take an AP or AICE course can do so.
The MCCA Magnet Program has been recognized as a "Florida Arts Model School" for the last 12 years by the Florida Alliance for Arts Educators.
The Engineering Academy and Biomedical Sciences Magnet Programs use the Project Lead the Way curriculum to give students real world experiences and hands-on learning through projects and support from their partners, such as Bayer, Tesla, Boeing, and Vex Robotics.
