MISSION: The Black Student Union (BSU) of West Port High School is an organization open to any student, regardless of race or ethnicity, who is committed to intellectual, cultural, social, and ethnic diversity. BSU's focus is to build awareness, education, and a new level of consciousness of being an African American youth in today's society. We aim to teach others about diversity and to show that through engaging in activities focused on acceptance and tolerance, we will all gain a better understanding of others while learning about ourselves.
GOAL: The BSU organization works inclusively to bring about positive racial relations on campus by promoting mutual respect for all cultures. BSU provides panel discussions, guest lectures, community service opportunities, and campus-community interactions. We encourage all students to strive for higher education and assist in making their goals more achievable by identifying more opportunities our students to earn academic, art, and service scholarships. The club is student governed with faculty supervision and sponsorship.
VISION: The vision is to build positive self-esteem, encouragement, and friendships. We will work aimlessly to create achievers, believers, and most importantly leaders for the future.
